About

Hi, I am Daniel Lee, a photographer located within the London & Essex area, specialising in location based flash-photography. I am extremely adaptable and am able to produce work in a multitude of styles to fit my client's needs. Whatever the design brief, I endeavour to fulfill it to the best of my ability.

I favour location photography (as opposed to studio photography), as I find a well chosen setting gives an image context, but I still demand the degree of control available when shooting in a conventional studio environment. To meet my requirements, I work using a 'portable studio' setup. Un-tethered by power cables, this allows me to light a location as if it were created within the confines of a studio. This approach gives me the best of both worlds - control and flexibility, which can lead to some amazingly dynamic shoots.

I have been a keen photographer since my early teenage years. Although I had been 'playing' with photography for a couple of years previously, this is when I had my first experience of processing film and prints in a traditional silver-halide process black & white darkroom. This memory is still vivid to me today - the eerie glow of the redlight; the smell of the developing and fixer fluids and the taste as the vapours hit the back of the throat; the sting of the chemicals as they touched the inevitable cuts & grazes on my hands; the anticipation (and frustration) of waiting for the negatives and prints to appear. The image to the left of a couple of friends and I, is the first photo I developed that very day (left to right - Jake, Tom and myself).

16 years on (now aged 29), I have long made the transition to modern digital processes, but I still try to approach my work with the same imagination and enthusiasm I had as a child.
